Most people who qualify for Medicare will receive Part A for free, assuming they earned their 40 quarters of tax credits by working and paying taxes for at least ten years. For those that do not qualify for Part A as premium free, in 2025 you can purchase Part A for a premium of $281 or $510 per month depending on how many quarters you’ve earned. But again, most people will qualify for Part A with no premium.
Part B, however, is not free and does come with a cost. In 2025, most people will pay a monthly premium of $185.00 for Part B of Medicare. However, your individual tax return income in 2023 was higher than $106,000 per year, or your joint tax return income was above $212,000 per year, you will pay more for your Part B premium.
The below chart displays exactly what you would pay based on your 2023 income levels. Your 2023 income determines what you pay for Medicare Part B in 2025.
