What is Medicare?
Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and older, people with certain disabilities, and people with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
It’s made up of two primary parts, Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B, otherwise known as “Original Medicare”.

Medicare Part A
covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility, hospice, lab tests, surgery, home health care.

Medicare Part B
coverage includes doctor and other health care providers' services and outpatient care, as well as durable medical equipment, home health care, and some preventive services.

Together these two parts of Medicare work much like an 80/20 plan where you can visit any doctor hospital or medical provider nationwide that accepts Medicare, and Medicare will cover roughly 80% of the bill, and you will be responsible for the remaining 20% as a coinsurance. There are a couple of options for what you can do to cover that 20% coinsurance and we’ll get into that shortly.
